Is Work Life Balance Possible?Oh work-life balance. Some think it’s a mysterious thing and that it does not actually exist. I have to disagree with those people though. I think work-life balance definitely exists and that it is possible to have a manage them both well at the same time.

Here are my tips to improve the quality of your life and make work-life balance a possibility:

1. Stop bringing work home with you.

If you truly want to leave work at the office and have a better work-life balance, then you need to stop bringing work home with you. You might need to talk to your boss if you are unhappy because something needs to be done.

Bringing work home occasionally might be needed, but if you are bringing work home every single work day and even on the weekends, then obviously there needs to be more than one person doing these tasks. You need to be more realistic about what tasks you can take on and what you cannot. If you are too stressed and lacking time anyways, then you’re quality may be suffering and you may not be helping the company as much as you originally thought you were.

2. Only check your e-mail during designated times.

One thing I have a problem with is checking my e-mail accounts way too often. There is really no need for this. Set designated times to check your e-mail, and use most of your time actually working. Clicking back and forth can lead to a lot of wasted time, and it doesn’t make an e-mail send to you any faster anyways.

3. Be more efficient with your time.

Most of the time, work can be entirely done at work and in less than the average 40 hour work week. Fact is that most people waste a few hours each week, if not each day, doing things that are not related to their job. This could be texting on your cell phone, checking social media, chatting excessively with coworkers and more.

Instead, work when you are actually at work and get as much done as you can.

4. Set time aside for life.

If you constantly feel busy with work, then you need to schedule in fun things that mean a lot to you as well, just like you would with work. Then, stick to your “fun” schedule as well, just like you would with work. Everyone every now and then needs at least a little bit of time for themselves in order to work better. Breaks are needed!
